The recent passing of Prince is an opportunity to express your thoughts in writing and lead to healing.
Journaling can be a key to emotional healing, according to North Carolina Career and Life Coach Maxine Phillips. The author of the journal guidebook, titled Transformation Write + Share + Live, says she encourages her clients to write down their thoughts as often as possible so they are able to capture the emotions and feelings of the moment. Phillips says, “Writing down or drawing your thoughts and ideas allows you to be completely honest with yourself. It can also be very therapeutic.”
The recent passing of Prince touched the lives of many worldwide and opened up feelings some people may not be able to express verbally. Journaling can be a good dose of therapy when it comes to coping with pain and grief according to Phillips. She says sometimes people have a hard time expressing what they want to say, especially when trying to come to terms with something traumatic that’s happened to them or another life event. The Career & Life Coach points out how the untimely passing of Prince can leave family, friends, and strangers devastated and unable to share their feelings verbally but “writing down raw emotions is an important step in the grief and healing process. She adds, “You don’t have to be a professional writer to keep a journal. All you need is to be able to express yourself in words or pictures in your own unique and creative way.”
Writing since the age of 11 has taught the owner of GAMMS Unlimited Youth and Adult Career/Life Coaching Company a thing or two about the importance of sharing your thoughts and emotions on paper. According to Phillips, sometimes people have a hard time communicating verbally what they want to say. “Being alone with your journal and pen gives you the opportunity to say it the way you feel it without having to worry about proper word choice. It’s like having a conversation with yourself about yourself.”
